They were flying below the clouds. The birds were flying very low. This was probably because of the wind being weaker there. The birds were flying above the water. There were many of them. The space above the water was almost packed with them. The space was black in places. The birds flew in formations. The formations seemed trains. The trains seemed freight trains. They seemed overloaded with people. The people seemed war refugees. The birds seemed war refugees. George stopped on seeing the birds. He waited for the person running with him to reach him. George pointed out the birds to the person. George found the sight extremely beautiful. He couldn't tear his eyes away from the birds. He stood still for a while. He then continued running. He continued looking at the birds. He could hardly think of anything else after that for days. He hasn't forgotten the sight of the birds.
17. breakfast
George fixes breakfast for himself. Howie had told George George can use anything he wants in the kitchen. George has cornflakes with milk, tea with sugar, white bread with butter, and one soft-boiled egg. He feels better about everything during and after the breakfast. This is partly due to the warmth of the tea and egg. The warmth makes George feel cozy. The girls and Howie are in the house during George's having breakfast. The girls are drinking coffee, reading, and talking. Howie is in his bedroom. There's no one else in the house.
18. talking
The girls talk about the experiences of the preceding night. At one point Reina tells her story. She's angry about what'd happened. There's however a note of mirth in her voice. It therefore sounds as though Reina had enjoyed what'd happened. The name of the man who'd come with her was George. She points out the name is the same as that of her husband. She doesn't point out the name is the same as that of George. She says the man had said to her in the morning: "I gotta tell you one thing -- I'm married...." She laughs at this point. She says: "Goddammit, George, if you're married, tell it to me before and not after!" She laughs again.
19. good-bye
During the run George has decided to leave. He'd told this to Howie before having breakfast. George packs after breakfast. He brings out his suitcase into the living room. He comes up to Howie. George takes out his wallet.
